75 truckloads of dirt arriving at the Event Center at Archer

The Event Center is transforming into an indoor dirt arena ahead of rodeo and jousting events

CHEYENNE, WY — February 6, 2024 — Laramie County Events in conjunction with Visit Cheyenne announced the inaugural Frozen Fury on the Plains earlier this year. We are just days away from the first indoor rodeo to be held at the Event Center at Archer in Cheyenne.

A truck unloads dirt on the main floor of the Event Center at Archer in preparation for rodeo and jousting events.

All hands are on deck at the Event Center transforming the 49,000sqft main floor into a rodeo arena for the bucking bronc futurity rodeo happening this Saturday.

It will take 75 truckloads of dirt to fill the indoor arena space. That’s about 1,500 tons of dirt. After the dirt is loaded and packed in, the tireless crew will set up the arena and panels for the stock. It is a weeklong effort that will culminate with 60 of the best young bucking horses pitted against 40 young Saddle Bronc riders in the Frozen Fury on the Plains.

As you can imagine, it is a ton of hard work setting up and creating an arena. Visit Cheyenne and Laramie County Events are not going to let all that hard work be for one event. The arena will stay up for the next two weekends.

The Frozen Fury on the Plains will take place this Saturday and next weekend the public is invited back out to enjoy Winter Knights of Cheyenne!

The Event Center will take you back to medieval times with full contact jousting, medieval market, all-day entertainment featuring aerialists, birds of prey and a magician, and a Nobles Feast.

This is not the first time that Visit Cheyenne has held a rodeo at Archer, although it is the first time that the rodeo will be inside! This is all possible through the partnership between Visit Cheyenne and Laramie County Events, the department that manages the Event Center at Archer. The two groups are extremely excited to be teaming up to bring new and exciting events to Cheyenne.

The rodeo will take place on Saturday the 10th inside the Event Center with doors opening at 5:00pm and the rodeo kicking off at 6:00pm Tickets can be purchased in advance with prices starting at $20 for adults, $15 for ages 5-12, children under 5 are free. Tickets will be available at the door with day-of-event increase. Full information can be found at www.frozenfuryrodeo.com.
